The so called Beautiful Tomb is a monumental heroon of Julio-Claudian date located in Hierapolis of Phrygia. The decorative program of its sarcophagus suggests that its owner might have been a descendant of the Seleucid ruyal family which founded Hierapolis during the Hellenistic period. Its exceptional level of workmanship makes ot one of the most distinguished product of an Asiatic workshop from early Roman Asia Minor. The paper anticipates some of the conclusions which will be offered on the forthcoming edition of the Beautiful Tomb.

Abstract
