This paper provides a selected overview of quantitative semantic approaches to the study of culture in different disciplines, including linguistics, psychology, and anthropology, and discusses the quantitative methods used for assessing and comparing cultures through corpora. The aim of the overview is to highlight powerful quantitative methods that may allow researchers to take greater advantage of the computational possibilities offered by corpora and corpus-analysis tools.
