The design and the management of a Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) system is usually characterized by high complexity as several parameters affects their performances. MSW collection services represents the first activity which affect performances of the whole system from waste treatment to recycling and disposal. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is currently an innovative technology for tracing and tracking items. During the last years, this technology is being applied into a variety of large scale applications especially in the logistics context.. The aim of the paper is to propose guidelines for designing “intelligent” Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) collection services. The proposed framework is based on the integration of RFID with sensor technology in order to amplify benefits supply by the two tools.

Abstract
The design and the management of a Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) system is usually characterized by high complexity as several parameters affects their performances. MSW collection services represents the first activity which affect performances of the whole system from waste treatment to recycling and disposal. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is currently an innovative technology for tracing and tracking items. During the last years, this technology is being applied into a variety of large scale applications especially in the logistics context.. The aim of the paper is to propose guidelines for designing “intelligent” Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) collection services. The proposed framework is based on the integration of RFID with sensor technology in order to amplify benefits supply by the two tools.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
