A process for the prepn. of dispersions of TiO2 nanocryst. particles with control of their size and shape starting from a Ti alcoholate utilizes alc. as the reaction medium and a compd. capable of reacting with the alc. producing water. The process is performed in the following stages: (a) prepg. a Ti alcoholate soln. in anhyd. alc., (b) adding the compd. capable of reacting with the alc. with water formation, (c) heating of the reaction mixt., (d) purifn. of the reaction product derived from the previous stages by centrifugation with the supernatant elimination and rinsing the collected residue with a solvent.
