A number of Satellite Service Centers (SSC) have been built in the last year within the scope of the SkyPlexNet architecture. They are installed to fulfil the needs of distance learning applications, multimedia data distribution, web mirroring and so on. We describe the context and the main functioning mechanisms of a new Satellite Access Management Router (SAM-R) which consistently solves access, accounting, authentication, advance reservation and routing problems using well- established Internet protocols. The originality of the approach is to be found in the way the SAM-R uses these protocols to grant users an advanced access to the satellite channel and in the efficient addition of a few extensions to such protocols.

Abstract
A number of Satellite Service Centers (SSC) have been built in the last year within the scope of the SkyPlexNet architecture. They are installed to fulfil the needs of distance learning applications, multimedia data distribution, web mirroring and so on. We describe the context and the main functioning mechanisms of a new Satellite Access Management Router (SAM-R) which consistently solves access, accounting, authentication, advance reservation and routing problems using well- established Internet protocols. The originality of the approach is to be found in the way the SAM-R uses these protocols to grant users an advanced access to the satellite channel and in the efficient addition of a few extensions to such protocols.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
