Along the network of a narration taking advantage of official documentation and private sources, this research wants to realise the impact of public policies aiming at appraising geographically suburban medium urban realities, with the task of identifying perceptions and representations of civic contexts within a national overview. In particular, there is a reference to holidays arranged in Lecce between 1896 and 1898, organised within a wider project of a town fit to combine, in a process of urban modernisation, cultural tradition and technological process. Sport competitions, theatre performances, concerts, feasts, and innovative measures to welcome visitors become effective tools of promotion significantly affecting the whole system in terms of circulation of people and goods, attraction, and establishment of social networks relating also to spare time.
