In this paper we retrace some moments of the so-called extraordinary intervention in the Italian Mezzogiorno when entrepreneurial initiatives of great relevance were put under way in those regions. These initiatives still determine the structural conditions of the economic activity in many of these local contexts. The possible ways of development of the Southern regions in Italy is a controversial issue in the academic debate, but the studies in favour of the development of the widespread entrepreneurship outnumber the ones concerning the weight of large enterprises located in industrial settlement. This work can be placed in the latter rank of studies and it aims to demonstrate that the industrial development in the South Italy is possible, as revealed by the first phase of the 4th steel pole in Taranto (Puglia).

Abstract
In this paper we retrace some moments of the so-called extraordinary intervention in the Italian Mezzogiorno when entrepreneurial initiatives of great relevance were put under way in those regions. These initiatives still determine the structural conditions of the economic activity in many of these local contexts. The possible ways of development of the Southern regions in Italy is a controversial issue in the academic debate, but the studies in favour of the development of the widespread entrepreneurship outnumber the ones concerning the weight of large enterprises located in industrial settlement. This work can be placed in the latter rank of studies and it aims to demonstrate that the industrial development in the South Italy is possible, as revealed by the first phase of the 4th steel pole in Taranto (Puglia).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
