We present the results of an investigation into strategies for the introduction of OpenMP to the NEMO oceanographic code. At present NEMO is parallelized using only the Message Passing Interface (MPI) with a two-dimensional domain decomposition in latitude/longitude. This version performs well on core counts of up to a few thousand.
