The main objective of this work was to analyze theoretically and empirically the determinants of Western Balkans (WB) migrants flows. Our analysis started with a summary of some relevant migration facts and figures. We focused on the most important European destinations for WB citizens. In this work, we estimated a particular statistical model for WB migration flows, based on the gravity theory. Following this logic, the number of international migrants is a function of variables associated with the origin, variables associated with the destination and other variables that approximate the distance between countries. In our model, we included two original independent variables that are associated with two typical concerns for WB countries: corruption and unemployment.

Abstract
The main objective of this work was to analyze theoretically and empirically the determinants of Western Balkans (WB) migrants flows. Our analysis started with a summary of some relevant migration facts and figures. We focused on the most important European destinations for WB citizens. In this work, we estimated a particular statistical model for WB migration flows, based on the gravity theory. Following this logic, the number of international migrants is a function of variables associated with the origin, variables associated with the destination and other variables that approximate the distance between countries. In our model, we included two original independent variables that are associated with two typical concerns for WB countries: corruption and unemployment.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
