Abstract: The paper focused on a coastal city of the Reign of Naples, Monopoli, during the first half of the XVIIIth century, as it was a pivotal centre of the oil trade from the Mediterranean Sea to the Countries of North Europe. Making a parallel with the same community in the first half of the previous century, this paper analyses the evolution of the local socio-economic processes and of the political structures too. These changes shape the urban space, encourage different patterns of integration and improve standards of living as well.
