The paper deals with the analysis of a historical masonry tower characterized by a squat profile and a square cross section. Due to the absence of asymmetry, a classical FE model of the tower gives as a result of the Modal Analysis the first two bending modes very close to each other. Only a detailed experimental study based on the application of Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) to environmental vibrations and the use of filtering processes allowed to update the model taking into account the effects of the surrounding conditions. The details of the aforementioned analyses and of the subsequent model updating are presented.

Abstract
The paper deals with the analysis of a historical masonry tower characterized by a squat profile and a square cross section. Due to the absence of asymmetry, a classical FE model of the tower gives as a result of the Modal Analysis the first two bending modes very close to each other. Only a detailed experimental study based on the application of Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) to environmental vibrations and the use of filtering processes allowed to update the model taking into account the effects of the surrounding conditions. The details of the aforementioned analyses and of the subsequent model updating are presented.File in questo prodotto:
