Arcangelo Lobianco's mediation between Coldiretti and DC in the early 1980s. The paper gives the first results of a research on the relationship between Christian Democracy and the National Confederation of direct farmers, through the political and trade union activity of Arcangelo Lobianco, at the helm of the organization since 1980, after the long presidency of the founder Paolo Bonomi. In the delicate situation of the early eighties, which marks the gradual crisis of Christian Democrat centrality, the new president is the interpreter of the society in motion with a program of renewal that, in placing at the center the revival of the agricultural sector, wants to overcome the old electoral logic, of conservation of power to remodel on a strategy of «linkage in autonomy» the party-union relationship, through a project that is attentive to the content, available for discussion, projected towards a long-term planning.
