Starting from the intellectual itinerary of Joseph Strayer, this paper aims to focus on the real goal of Strayer’s contribution, which is not the simple description of problems experienced by the Soviet dictatorship during the Sixties but, on the contrary, the possible outcomes of this crisis, historically situated halfway in the typical paths followed by Western statecraft during the last centuries, characterized by increasing complexity of society and by consequent institutional developments
