Vikèlas ed altri autori greci in Italia alla fine del XIX sec.: un traduttore dimenticato, alcuni libri e tre manoscritti ritrovati

The article examines the production of Carmelo Cazzato (Cor- sano 1874 - Rome 1936), a neo-Hellenist of Apulian origins who, after having lived in the Greek community of Alexandria in Egypt, returned to Italy and produced some translations from neo-Greek. These texts, unobtainable on the antiquarian market, have been re- trieved, namely the Italian version of Vikèlas’ Lukìs Laras and those of two sections of Vernadhakis’ Merope. Furthermore, the exam- ination of some journals of the time has yielded some translations from Paparighòpulos. Equally valuable are the translations and un- published essays contained in three manuscripts now housed in the Provincial Library of Lecce. Our work presents: a bio-bibliographic profile of Cazzato, a first edition article of the retrieved material and some observations on the Italian version of Lukìs Laras by Vikèlas.
