Starting from Zambrano’ s reference to Max Scheler’ s book, The Human Place in the Cosmos, this essay explores the passages through which the Spanish philosopher comes to outline an ontology of coexistence, thus removing the human being from the position of the subject and showing its constitutive belonging to an order that transcends it. The first part reconstructs both the proximity and the distance of Zambrano with the philosophical anthropology of Scheler and Ortega y Gasset. The second part traces the characters of Zambrano’s ontology of coexistence through her reference to the soul and the piety. The third part shows the roots of this philosophical vision in the reflection on birth.
