In four spots of the Noctes Atticae Gellius quotes the Memorialia of Masurius Sabinus. In this essay the author wonders whether Gellius directly consulted Sabinus’s work or obtained information from different sources. The Sabinian fragment (Gell. 3.16.23) taken from Pliny’s Naturalis historia is also analyzed: despite the presence of several analogies with the narrative structure of fragments of the Memorialia preserved by Gellius, the author assumes that it is taken from a different Sabinan work. Doubts are expressed, however, about direct consultation of Gellius’ other writings.

Abstract
In four spots of the Noctes Atticae Gellius quotes the Memorialia of Masurius Sabinus. In this essay the author wonders whether Gellius directly consulted Sabinus’s work or obtained information from different sources. The Sabinian fragment (Gell. 3.16.23) taken from Pliny’s Naturalis historia is also analyzed: despite the presence of several analogies with the narrative structure of fragments of the Memorialia preserved by Gellius, the author assumes that it is taken from a different Sabinan work. Doubts are expressed, however, about direct consultation of Gellius’ other writings.File in questo prodotto:
